What is FPI (Football Power Index)?
ESPN's Football Power Index is a data-driven team efficiency rating system that measures overall team strength. It uses advanced analytics to evaluate offensive efficiency, defensive performance, special teams impact, and situational performance.
How it works: FPI runs 20,000 simulations of the remaining NFL season to calculate each team's projected wins, playoff probability, and Super Bowl chances. The ratings account for opponent strength, recent performance trends, and game context.
Why use it for betting? FPI provides objective, algorithmic team rankings that go beyond simple win-loss records. Teams with high FPI ratings but losing records may be undervalued by the market, while teams with winning records but low FPI may be overvalued - helping you identify betting value.
